Hi all,

I have just taken delivery of an Asus Xonar DG 5.1 OEM sound card to go with my new Roccat Kave headset.

The problem lies in that windows does not detect it properly, it is showing up as a "multimedia audio controller" in the device manager, yet on further inspection within the details tab the hardware ID stacks up with that of the Xonar DG according to this website

http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Xonar_EEPROM_Failure

This leads me to believe that my hardware is physically installed OK yet whenever I run the driver software downloaded from the Asus website the installer tells me that no Asus sound card is connected.

This occurs on both my PCI slots and I have a clean install of windows 7 home premium (64bit ofcourse)

Anybody got any suggestions of is it dead on arrival?

Are you 100% certain the power cable is in properly, every now and again the power cable on my DX is drooping a bit after I've moved things inside my computer and windows doesn't see it

Awesome Orcvader, that's worked fine as far as playback goes, however my microphone is not detecting any audio input. Any ideas on how to get that going?

infact scratch that the mic is working perfectly, it's just that it now seems to be playing the microphone back through the headset as I speak. Is this a windows setting or something within the Xonar software?

Sounds like a Windows setting, but you can change this in the Xonar control panel too.

In the bottom right corner of the desktop, right click the Windows speaker icon and select recording devices. Select the Asus microphone and click properties. Then go on the Listen tab and untick "Listen to this device".

Thanks for that, I have gone into the properties of the Microphone , under the listen tab the option "listen to this device" is unticked, I also tried changing the playback device to the SPDIF out which has nothing plugged into it to see if that would silence it which didnt work either >.<

How about this, go into the Xonar control panel, go into Mixer, click Record and see if any of the eye icons are highlighted:

All sorted thanks guys, originally the microphone wasnt working because the xonar software defaulted to the front mic, (I dont even have the front case audio connected to the xonar sound card!), also the sound was being played back because the "monitor" box was ticked within the windows audio settings for the microphone.

Now it's all sorted I have to say the sound quality is brilliant compared to my last setup :D
