Asus are due to release their own audio card called the Xonar.

I'm sorry if this inormation has been posted before, I have tryed searching "xonar".

Look very cool. Happily, I don't have any bother with my X-Fi. However, the issues with driver support on Vista is terrible. So if these deliver, perhaps Asus will get some welcome custom!

Nice to see that it should be available in PCI-Express 1x and standard PCI interfaces. I'm not sure if I can use the little port for the onboard audio card (looks like a 1x) on my P5N32-E as it seems to be set slightly further back than the rest of the slots. Unless 1x slots are set back slightly anyway.

Strange that nobody from OcUK have made any posts about this, though information is a little scarce at best, despite the fact that its supposed to be released soon after CeBit. Meh, I'm sure one of their guys is looking into sourceing the product.

dts connect....ddlive. its just going to be another cmedia based card, like the hda's and the hidiously overpriced razor card.

To be fair, none of thoes cards you've listed are particularly bad and are all better than onboard. The main reason I'm so interested is that seeing as its coming out after Vista has been released, it should (hopefully) be designed to run under it and have fully working drivers. I'll have a good excuse to ditch Creative then. The secondary digital conversion processor also looks interesting, though I don't rip that much audio these days. Just need to sit back and await benchies I guess.

i didnt say they were bad - i used to own one. but come on now, look at the price of the razor card. >£100 for for a card that does ddlive and not a lot more is just ripping the living daylights out of the customers. if you want a gaming card the xfi's (as much as i dislike this) are where its at. i dunno maybe i was spoilt when i paid ~£35 new for my x-mystique. even they are double that price now.

whats that about anyway? ripping audio doesnt even use the card unless its some sort of 5.1 ripping acceleration or something

I think that's pretty much what its for though with the advent of DRM tis kind of technology could be used to bypass copy protection on audio files. As we know that DRM is inmplemented by encrypting digital media but in the case of audio it has to be converted to analogue (no encryption) before it is sent to the speakers. From a little reading up it apears that the secondary processor could be used for this purpose.
