I have bought an Asus Z97-K motherboard as part of an upgrade but have been unable to get the system to post

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18702180

I suspect the existing memory i was planning to reuse is not compatible as its not on the QVL list:

https://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/Z97K/HelpDesk_QVL/

There are three lists and it seems a lot of OCUK memory is not on any of them.

I am after 8GB-16GB on 2-4 sticks that are compatible with the motherboard that OCUK stock

Can anyone assist?

P.S.
I did spot these but not sure if compatible

Just because the RAM isn't on the QVL, doesn't mean it's incompatible. The memory you've linked to though should work fine.

Looking at your other thread, you're trying to a use a 4690K. Your board supports it from BIOS version 330. If the board you have shipped with the original BIOS rev 325, then you might have a problem. I had this with a Gigabyte AMD board a while back. Fortunately I was able to get into and update the BIOS on that occasion.

Is there anyway to check which BIOS version the motherboard has without getting into BIOS itself? I will have a good look at the box when i get home

I would find it surprising if it wasn't supported considering motherboard and CPU are not exactly cutting edge and considering that OCUK sell them as a bundle together, you would think it would work out of the box.

I'm not sure you can flash a BIOS without having access to it so thats why I think the existing memory (which in theory would be compatible but is now 3-4 years old) is at fault.

I would suggest that you do need to update the BIOS.

Download the latest version from their website and then read section 2.1.3 of the manual. If I have the right board/manual it has a built-in BIOS recovery procedure that will find the USB automatically and will recover to that newer version you have put on it if you do as they say. Haven't read to see if it needs to be a specific USB port, if it does they are usually identified as such.

What have you got to lose if it doesn't work :)
