At least 73 killed in Egypt football violence

Mentioned this in the banter thread. It's absolutely crazy.

RIP to all those that have died and hope all those injured make a full recovery.

Horrible, disgraceful, horrific. This is one of the things that scares me, its suggested that violence at football games in Africa has increased since general political rioting has been occuring in the past year. When people start to riot to get their own way...... its rarely limited to one worthy cause. Pitch invading to attack players because your team has lost.

Once violence becomes a completely excepted and even encouraged with worldwide support for one situation....... people blur the lines between right/wrong and what's acceptable.

Feel worst for security guards and players who did nothing wrong and any/all fans who did nothing, those who took knives into the stadium and ones who ran onto the pitch to start violence and hurt/kill other people, honestly, hope they got what was coming to them.

It's a terrible series of events. Horrible.

I hope Egyptian football can recover from this, similar applies to other Countries where football violence has been exacerbated by political and social unrest.

Looks like the Egyptian Football Federation's board has been dissolved and members referred for questioning by prosecutors. Very serious stuff.

Truly tragic and a waste of life. Reading a report on The Guardian:

His assistant, Pedro Barny, said: "What happened was an unspeakable catastrophe. From the beginning of the game, the fans of the opposing team were allowed to fire rockets and stones at us without any intervention.
