At what point do you get a doctors note?

Hi all,

Just a confirmation really, but if you are ill for more than 7 days, you need to get a doctors note, but at what point do you need to get the note, on that day?

For example if I was ill for 10 days, do I ask the doctor for a note on the 10th day and hand this over to employer on the 11th or can I get the note on the 8th day but asking the doc to sign me off until 10th..

you need to go before the 7 days expires afaik

the doctor can sign you off for significant periods from the date you see him, my missus is currently signed off for 6 weeks with a broken ankle

You can get it backdated if you're still ill after the 7 days of self-cert.
