Just wondering this, cus my brother has a 280 GTX and its watercooled. But hes been playing GTA and he told me that the graphics card is struggling and keeps turning off. He said the screen goes blank and a red light goes on, on the graphics cards.

What is the fail-safe temperature? I'm surprising hes having overheating issues with water cooling. I will get him to run a temperature monitor to check thats the problem.

Not sure what the fail-safe is at on them 280s but I reckon its not going to kick in until the card reaches a 100* at the -very- least, in which case his WC loop is not working properly. Just check the temps, there's a 100 different reasons why the card could stop working.

My Zotac 280 GTX with stock air cooler(ie,read pants)hits 89C under full load, and has never reset/gone blank.

100 degrees on air is fine

Waterblocks will generally take off 20-30 degrees over air cooling.

If it's hitting 100 degrees on water then the block is not making proper contact.
