Hi everyone, hope you can help with this:

Got myself a shiny new Abit AT8 last night, along with a new Connect3d ati x1800 xt, and a 160GB WD SATA-II drive. I added my old PATA drive and SATA drive to the system and booted. Firstly, I couldnt get into windows, but wasnt suprised... so installed windows XPsp2 onto a partition on my PATA drive, and it loaded fine. However, I cant seem to detect my 2 SATA drives. I have enabled PATA emulation in the bios, and both drives are plugged in (although i bought a WD secure connect cable to use with the new drive, and it seems to connect to both the sata power socket and the sata data socket... will this power the drive on its own?!). The IDE/PATA HD and DVD-RW are both detected.

Any thoughts?

Must be missing something simple.

ps. apologies if this is in the wrong section.. wasnt sure if it was motherboard or HD applicable.
 
thanks... wasnt sure about whether i should do that or not. Unfortunately it doesnt explain why i cant see my old SATA hard drive, which worked on ym old motherboard.... its all plugged in etc, so should technically be working. Any other thoughts?
 
ok, apologies.. have sorted it. me being a fool. You were quite right about power.. the molex on the secure connect one needed to be in, and the power for the other sata drive wasnt in properly.
