ataport.sys BSOD on new build

So i've rebuilt my computer and so far, not too many problems.

The graphics card is running a lot hotter than before despite lower ambient temperature but i can live with that.

The main problem is once in a very long while, about once every 3 days. The computer will stop responding, firefox will lock up, then so will windows explorer, CTRL + ALT + DEL will do nothing, then i'll get a BSOD

I've looked online and can't find any solution. I read Windows service pack 1 fixes the issue but it hasn't.

My spec is as a follows:

Asus P8Z68-V motherboard
Core i5 2500k Sandybridge
2x 4GB Corsair XMS3 RAM
ATi Radeon 5870 1GB
Vertex 3 60GB SSD SATAIII
Western Digital Black 1TB SATAIII
700W PSU

I've tried changing SATA cables, different power cables, i've tried running both hard drives on SATA2 ports, i've unplugged the DVD drive etc but it still happens. I've put the CPU to stock speed but still happens.

See below image. Any help would be appreciated as it was only 3 weeks or so when i upgraded the machine after spending a lot of money but feel at a loss

I've ran Intel Burn Test and it comes back as Success from the stress tests. So the computer being under load makes no difference

have you updated firmware ware on ssd to 2.11, updated intel rst to 10.6, and have you enabled hot plugging?

How do you enable hot plugging? I've not updated any firmware.

It is getting worse though, today twice the system became unresponsive and then BSOD. This time different error stating a critial service stopped and it then couldn't process an event log to the drive at the end of the BSOD

Really tempted to return the drive back to OCuK and ask for another brand/model of drive

you need to have set your sata controller to achi and then you should get the option of enabling hot plugging.

If it is not already set to achi you will have to reinstall windows alternately I do believe there is a reg edit that can be done.
I would suggest a secure erase, firm ware update and reinstall of OS.
Make sure you do the windows experience test, apparently that tells widows you have a ssd and it enables things like trim.

You must have sata controller set to achi and the drive must not be the boot dive to update the firmware, you can find the ssd tool on OCZ website.

and dont forget to update rst to 10.6

I had similar issues, all works fine now my machine is on 24/7.

I've tried reinstalling windows twice and it is set to AHCI. I'll look for a hot plugging setting and update my firmware then see how it goes.

Thanks :)

Tonight i'll try and work out how to update the firmware and try and locate the hot plugging setting. If that doesn't work i'm going to move the ram into the empty DIMM slots in case its the RAM. If that doesn't help i'll run onboard graphics instead.

If that doesn't work i'm going to walk up to OCuK and ask them to change it for another drive... hopefully that wont be a problem as I don't have the packaging

Any luck?

Well i've updated the firmware on the Vertex 3(was a pain but got it done in the end) It was version 2.06 and now its version 2.11. Hot plugging was already set to disabled in the BIOS so i've not touched that.

I tried to update the BIOS as well from 0501 to 0606 but it says it is an invalid ROM so I decided to leave it. So far, it hasn't locked up, i'll see how it goes for a few days use as it can be very intermittent(sp?)

I'll report back in a few days but hopefully updating the firmware has helped

hot plugging must be enabled.

hot plugging must be enabled.

Oh okay. On my next restart i'll enable it as well. I wasn't sure what hot plugging was, i assumed it was unplugging and plugging in hard drives whilst the computer was on like hot-swapping so didn't want to touch it.

I'll continue to report back. So far without hot plugging but firmware update everything has been fine, but it can be a day or 2 between freezes, varys great. Will report back soon though

Yes it is the same as hot swapping, but enabling this apparently enables full ACHI mode, without the hot plugging it is in legacy mode on this chip set, according to OCZ.

I enabled hot plugging on the 19th when you mentioned it, and still no problems so far :)

Seems to be about 5 or 6 days now since the last freeze so I think touch wood its resolved :)

I've not really played any games, but the freezing and BSOD would be even on the desktop.

I'll report back if the issue repeats but i think its resolved. Thank you everyone for your help :D

The problem happened again today. I was on the Windows desktop and everything became unresponsive. I could for a short time resize open windows, then I couldn't do that, i tried clicking the start menu but besides changing colour it didn't open and stayed with its "shining" graphic. Then after a few minutes I got a BSOD

INTERNAL_PAGE_ERROR (or something like that)

HTTP.sys was the file it mentioned.

I restarted but the computer tried to boot from the 1TB drive, went to BIOS and it lost the Vertex 3. Restarted several times but still couldn't find the SSD. I had to do a hard ATX reset to get the drive to become recognised.

I'm going to take the drive back to Overclockers as i'm fed up with it. I may see if OCuK can offer me a different drive
