ATC 500 - people say it's not large enough for a modern CPU heatsink?

Because of the small interior and the placement of the PSU I've heard it said several times that it's not that useful a case for a modern processor. I think I have a solution: Coolermaster Aquagate Mini R80 :)

Takes up more space than a NT03 or orb cooler.

You can cool a modern chip in one, its more the cases cooling that is in question, we are talking the 60/80mm transition period here. :p

I have trouble sleeping, have posted in every hour of the day before now, two days straight. :(

You obviously have not been reading CC long. :p

The 500 is very nice though, so tempted to build a rig just for the cooling in the case, thinking moving my dothan rig into it, would suit it near perfectly I feel.

What I was thinking of is gettng my hands on a borg cooler and just moving the bulk of the heatsink away from the PSU.

Could run it passive then as dothan CPU's output next to nothing, the real test would be how long it took for the case to get to 70deg case temp running completely passive.

Never managed to pull off the completely passive PC before, always something ruining it.

Not in the 500, but as another project take a look at a mini ITX based via EPIA system. I have a little tiny Epia 5000 with no fans in a tiny silver Cubid 3688 case. The case has a fan but as the Epia 5000 puts out hardly any heat and I sit the case vertically I've disconnected the fan and it cools by convection. The PSU is an external laptop style brick. There isn't a single fan anywhere. Even the hard drive is a 2.5" laptop drive so almost silent.

I don't use it for much and it's not very quick but I use it for learning Linux.
