If you are an atheists please consider donating to Aron Ra's patreon so that he can produce videos and atheist content as a full time job. I've donated £10 per month. He is currently up to $800 and even $3 per month will help.

Hope its not against the rules to post this. :D

If he gets to $1500 per month he said he will create an online resource, Phylogeny Explorer Project.

Also checkout patreon.com its quite a cool site for music and art and other things.

What pointless crap.
This is no different than the preachers aiming at vulnerable and nieve people.

lol

How is it no different?

This guy has a real job but he would like to produce atheists videos as a full time job but instead he has to work at insurance company to pay bills to sustain his family. Big difference than some religious preacher.

He explains why he needs money and what he plans to do with it on the website.

High School and or AP Biology Standards video/Improved Sound Quality
$800 per video
I will add another video based on high school science curriculum standards -in addition to one documentary style video like The Foundational Falsehoods of Creationism and one middle school science standards video. That makes the total 3 videos a month all with quality sound, because they will be made in a controlled studio environment. Any other video made in an environment with background noise like outdoor environments or live audiences will have the sound touched up.

Full time science education promoter, secular activist, podcaster and 4 youtube videos per month
$1,000 per video
I already spend most of our free time challenging conservative politics on science education and church state separation and doing presentations that promote freethought community. However, I am often sidelined when I would like to attend a hearing or protest during the week. At this level, I would be able to produce content full time

He is going to make school training videos and content regarding evolution and Phylogeny and other topics.

I like playing video games as a hobby, so does that mean that I should have others fund it because my job doesn't pay enough?

How does you playing games (poorly) offer anything to anyone else? this is a big difference, this guy creates amazing lectures, presentations and debates. He is saying that he would like to make more of them but he does not have time because he has to work at an insurance company all day.

There are thousands of videos like that which already exist on youtube, from extremely credible sources that have numerous degrees in the chosen area and are often professors. Why would we need another person making videos about the same area that is far less qualified, especially in a school environment?!

His videos are about the best on evolution and Phylogeny. This is why i am promoting his page because i think it is good. If you are aware of all these videos that already exist, i would like to see them, so please post them.

His wife is a teacher and they work together to create these materials, they are about the best i have ever come across.

What we have threads on starving yourself but we can't have a thread on atheism?

I am an atheist.

Whilst most of the times I can see different points of views I am struggling with this. I don't mean any direspect either.

'Preachers' speak 'the word of God' and 'enlighten' followers. Educating them about religion, etc. Some may argue this does command a wage / salary / donations. They are for all intensive purposes a teacher or some sort.

An atheist preacher / speaker? Teaching you nothing. There is nothing to believe in. Zero. Zilch.

Why doesn't he do what 99% of atheiests do? Not give a ****?

I rarely if ever donate to anything in my entire life. Bar a few things here and there. I have certainly never donated on a monthly basis. This just shows that me posting this is not something that i would ever usually do and i completely understand if you don't want to donate, especially if you never heard of the guy. I don't see what him being american has to do with it though. I would suggest watching his videos first of course, otherwise you would be donating blindly and would be no better than a religious blindly throwing money at a cause.

I play football. Would love to play football more. However I have a job (coincidently in insurance) that I have to go to all day.

PAY ME SO I CAN PLAY FOOTBALL MORE PLEASE!!!

Again, how would anyone else benefit from you playing football? at least if you make an analogy make it relevant.

If you have something that you think people will pay for, then create an art account on pateron and we can see if people do want to watch you play football or pc games.

Atheism is the understanding that we do not have enough evidence to make the claim that a god exists. It does not make the claim that gods do not exist or that gods do exists. Simply that there is no evidence to support either way.

You can watch his video series Foundational Falsehoods of Creationism, yt playlist.

I'm an apatheist but I don't see any of them asking for money to make more videos about how we don't care.

Not all atheists are apathetic and don't care. Some want to convince religious people that they are wrong and make in their opinion a better world as a result. Aron Ra being one of them. It is much more serious of a threat in the us because there they have Christians trying to push creationism in schools. While in the uk it is more religious extremism that is the biggest problem.

See OED definition above.

And there are no atheists that are militant in the name of atheism.

lol 1 apparent militant atheist. 2 billion militant religious. yea strong argument you have there.

Some atheists do agree in the possibility of gods or god. They just do not agree the religious books are from god nor would they claim that it is fact or proven. It is simply not ruled out as a possibility and given enough evidence they would potentially change their mind.

Or take the UK approach and teach both sides of the argument and let the child decide for themselves? I learned about creationism in religious education during secondary school. I learned about evolution in science during the same term.

Occluding a whole area of argument from education is nothing short of brain washing, generating a caste of drones to do societies bidding. So much for the country of "freedom" and "liberty" if that's how you see it.

What the religious want to do in the states, is teach evolution as non factual and creationism as factual. In the science class they want to teach creationism a long side the scientific understanding of the creation of the universe.

If i had my way i would restrict the teaching of all religious books to anyone under the age of 18. I would make them adults only. Children are far too young to be brainwashed with the religious books. Once they have developed their rationale and their logic capability, then if they so decide they will be free to read the religious books. The thing is though this would eventually phase religious out because it depends no brainwashing little children and capturing their minds when they are very young. Without that, the amount of people that would read the religious at 18 for the first time and actually believe it would be relatively insignificant.

I heard a great definition of atheism from aron ra in one his lectures. He basically compared it to theism, and said it is A-theism. Meaning it is the disagreement ultimately with theism. Which is that no gods exist. However being open to evidence or agreeing that there is a possibility of a god existing, does not make someone agnostic per se (well it does but not necessarily). It is simply saying that like any other subject in science (or the world) given enough evidence they will be be open to the new information and change their views and so on.

Agnostic is where i defined atheism as someone who does not think there is evidence either way. This is not far off from atheism and like elmarko says is just semantics. It is only that using the word "believe" gives ammunition to the religious to classify it as a belief system. This is why a lot of atheist avoid using the word believe when describing their opinions on god. However that does not mean they can't call themselves atheist.

Not my cup off tea and he doesn't even say what his videos are about.

However I already support one creator on patreon.

If you like space, it's a good weekly ish show
http://www.patreon.com/tmro

Be nice if they could get to several thousand a show, so they can go back to the old days, when they were massive doing live shuttle launches. All kind of fell apart when shuttle retired, but they're on their way back up.

I only just came across patreon but there is some high quality content on there.

These two making food were quite funny http://www.patreon.com/creation?hid=435102
