Is it just me or are heptathletes all a bit 'friendly'?

Probably just wishful thinking.

I think all athletes are generally friendly together probably more so in the Heptathlon and Decathlon.

Couple of weeks a go at Gateheads, Gay and Powell were doing promotion stuff together in the streets laughing and joking together.

Was watching the interview with Thorkildsen earlier and they mentioned the 98.48 Zelezny threw in 1996. Other than Bubka's 6.14m in the pole vault and that blokes record in the womens 100m I can't think of any record in athletics that looks so unbreakable at the moment.

I'd add the womans 10k to that. A fair bit of controversy surrounding the Chinese athletes when that record was broken.

Swedish high jumper looks quite tasty

That long jump was incredible. He got a big PB with his previous jump then smashed that by around 25cm.

Edit: Perving aside, the women's high jump looks pretty competitive.

Emma Green....yummy. :) Shame her boy friend is her coach who is quite a bit older if I remember correctly.

Womens high jump is always competitive with Vlasic and Friedrich, they are both very very good.

edit----------->

Speaking of which...Friedrich has just got 3rd and Green has got 2nd.

Well done to Team GB on the 19 medals, best ever championships on that score and some great performances with a number of athletes being very close to moving up a position in the results. Indeed most of the commentary was pretty good and insightful too, at the very least it didn't make me want to perforate my eardrums with a spoon as football commentary so often does.

Really impressed by Ennis and Mo Farrah, and some of the lesser known athletes

While there are some events which are really European based (so the Euros are actually including the Worlds best anyway) - a lot of the track stuff England dont stand a chance in World Championships / Olympics - maybe hurdles and the longer distances but the sprint races we always get humiliated by the Americans and Jamacians - and the Africans in the much longer events

Jamaica have enough sprinters to practically fill the final for 100m and 200m, include the Americans and its probably the Semi's as well (and Im talking men and women here)

Mo Farrah going to train with the Ethopians is great, he can really get an idea of how to improve over 5000 / 10,000m - but over the sprint races it seems its going to be so much more difficult

I really like Michael Rimmer - seems like a nice guy - but doesnt stop me wishing this "flag of convenience" didnt exist. Ethopians running for Turkey, Marlene Otty running at 50 for any country that would take her....smells worse than an old pair of socks!!!

(/mini rant over)

Generally Very Well Done to the British team - lets hope they can all improve for 2012 (ps I also think its beyond stupid having a Euro championships just weeks before the Olympics now also)

pps - that Swedish Highjumper was really HOT - and yes her coach/partner looked 60 odd lol

Is the bit about Michael Rimmer linked to the flag of convenience rant? Because if it's the 800m runner he was born in the UK and as far as I'm aware has always represented Team GB. Mo Farah who you were praising on the other hand was born in Somalia and moved here at the age of 10.

I quite enjoyed seeing Merlene Ottey still competing at 50 for Slovenia, it's a remarkable achievement to be there at all. If people want to run under a flag of convenience and I get to see more of these marvellous athletes who might not get a place for their 'real' national team then I'm ok with that.

At the moment I'm quietly hopeful for the British team, there's still a long time before the Olympics though so I'm not getting too excited yet.
