Advice needed on below system please. Recommendations and alternatives would be much appreciated.
PSU is an ocz500mxsp.
I will not be overclocking. Some light gaming, programming, linux dual boot normal family stuff.

The "K" version of the CPU isn't much more expensive so you may as well get one.

What about stuff like your drives etc. Are they all SATA?

I wanted the retail as it comes with a cooler for the same money as the K oem. I will not be overclocking so I do not see the benefit of the K but please correct me if im wrong.
The only drive for now will be the ssd in the basket, most stuff stored in the cloud and music etc on a cheap freenas server that i will be building next.
Probably be wise for me to add a cheapish dvd sata drive, I already have a case.
Will the ocz500mxp be ok for the i5 haswell?
Been out of the loop for so long now buying blind really.
The old t-bird served me well with the dual voodoo 2's ;)

Retail K series is only £6 more, you can do a small overclock without going to mad for a free performance boost :D

It was 2001 apparently. For any young'uns in the thread:

http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/cpu/203-amd-athlon-14ghz-thunderbird/

One of the few issues I have with this Thunderbird core is the high running temperature of the unit. The Tunderbird core itself is a very strong and powerful architecture, but the high speed means that it, in turn, runs very hot, which is linked to the high voltage which is being sent to the CPU.
...
Comparing it with the Intel P4, the 1.4 when running on a VIA (KT133X) Platform totally beats the P4 1.5 all over. This is just astounding when Intel want more money for their platform and memory.

Nothing ever changes!!!

Edit: another staggering fact, that Tbird has 37 million transistors, the i5-4670 has 1.4 BILLION, a 38-fold increase.

My first overclock was the T-Bird 1.4...
