Athlon 3000 showing as 'amd engineering sample 00'

Its saying the core speed is only 801 mhz. What should the core speed of a 3000+ be?

How do I go about overclocking it. I've only got a crappy asrock motherboard I'm not going to be able to clock nothing out of it.

Whats an ES CPU?

So what should I set my bios too? A multiplier of 9? Should I enable cool n quiet in the bios as its disabled. What if I can't turn my PC back on after I change the multiplier what do I need to do?

Also, my PC has just reset before I typed this. Why would I need I bios update to run this CPU and should I update the bios?

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.

Well I've updated my Mobo to the latest revision, for what its worth. I then set the CPU to a multiplier of 9 in the BIOS (1.8GHZ). After a couple of dodgy restarts windows xp eventually loaded.

The CPU looked really mashed up and it looks like its had a hard life. I'm tempted to send the CPU back as the auction states it just an OEM 3000, which is all I wanted, not some bashed up pre-fab thingy that came from china (it was in a chinese plastic CPU holder).

Can someone recommend a good CPU stress program please so I can see if its working OK.

Thanks.

Ah man it seems to be bust. Keeps resetting the PC when set to 1800mhz, even resets sometimes when its just on 800mhz.

I've not had any luck getting a replacement Athlon at all. Bust the pins on my original one, then used fastmemoryman on ebay and he sent me a sempron 3000 instead of an athlon 3000 and isn't replying to his emails. Bought this one now its bust.
