athlon 3500+ to phenom 9500?

a friends office comp has an athlon 3500+ in it and unsurprisingly its not the fastest comp in the world. since i have a phenom 9500 sitting unused i was thinking of swapping them. so i just wanted to check, since they are both AM2 cpu's it should work fine right?

i dont have the mobo model (i do know its an MSI) to hand so cannot look up and confirm that the cpu is supported officially, but it should work shouldnt it?
 
damn, the mobo takes ddr2 i know that also but thats about the limit of what i know about it. oh i lied, i know its got nvidia onboard graphics, 6100 something.

urgh im going have to go and open it and find out arent i.
