Was thinking of building an overclocking machine ;)

Are AMD Athlon 4000+ Good overclockers how well would it overclock?
Thinking off, DDR XMS4000PT TwinX (2x1GB) CAS3
And Graphics card x1900xt.

What yous think gaming pc, and how well you reckon cpu would overclock im hoping at least 3.2ghz

Are you doing a complete upgrade or new build? if so then for the same money you can go for AM2 which has a clear upgrade path for the next year, 939 is being phased out very quickly. Even better if you can add a bit more for conroe.

Anyway I think 3.2Ghz is too ambitious for a s939 4000+, you need a good stepping with crazy volt and cooling to do that. I think 2.7 / 2.8Ghz is more like it??

It's a pretty good rig for gaming, will handle all current games easily until DX10 games come. but really you should be looking at dual core by now, will come in handy later on when games start supporting multi core cpus.

You will very lucky to get above 3GHz stable, I'd say aim for 2.7/2.8GHz from any AMD 64. I`ve got a 3500+ that can screenshot at 3246MHz on air but to get stable it would need about 1.8v!

Ive also got a 4000+ that wont do more than 2.7GHz stable, an old one - one of the first ones produced. It wont boot XP at more than 2.85GHz, and even then its compltely unstable - thats trying upto 1.7v.

Later 4000+ should do 3gig, but that's no dead cert. Mine wont do over 3ghz stable, but is rock solid at 3ghz on 1.55v

If its a new build(S939) save your money and go for the 3700+. Most seem to hit the same average overclocks as the 4000+ anyway. (2.7-2.8ghz).

However I am suprised no one has mentioned you go core2duo.

New build.. Conroe. No reason why you should use anything else.

A decent 4000+ KAB1E will probably hit 3.2 with the right hardware. Mine does 3Ghz at pretty much stock volts.

Edit: On air too :p

My 4000 sits happily at 3ghz with 1.37v and have had it to over 3.1 easily as well just needed 1.42v. If you have a dfi mobo beware of the corsair i had some strange issues with that combo (was with xms4400c25) couldnt get it to run higher than 250mhz (rated to 275) or at cas 2.5 was really annoying till i sold it and got my redlines :D

thats a nice clock mate, mine 3700+ doing 2.7 and vcore auto jumps to 1.47 but am using cool n quiet and its working a treat.

i saw your post and tried puttin fsb to 273x11 ram on 133 and HT 3 and it wouldnt boot into windows LOL

any ideas?

sorry dont mean to high jack.

get ** self a 3700 its cheap and it clocks really good. got mine few weeks ago for 59 inc del retail NEW.

i just got myself a 4000+ and a dfi mobo hoping to clock this soon once i have got to grips with overclocking.. *** ram would u recomend? if corsair has issuses?

"sry bout the high jack" i asked this question b4 but had no replys..

Lol, this site doesn't even sell the ZX anymore by the look of it, either that or it's out of stock. Tis good RAM though. How about the Corsair XMS series? Pricey at @ £185 & £205 respectively though

Was lucky enough to get a great stepping, 3.17 mine is clocked with only slight increase in voltage, had to drop an aftermarket cooler on it tho to keep it stable.

Works great now, never crashed since I put the new cooler on it and max's out at around 52/53C

Really would go for dual core now though if I were you, minimum AM2 but conroe would be the betting mans choice currently. Only problem is that good motherboads are just so damn expensive for em. Which is why Ive held off.
