The specs of my current system are below:

Athlon 64 3200 @ 2.4Ghz (s939)
1Gb pc3200 ram
Asus v9999 128mb gfx (6800nu)
AsRock Dual Sata Mobo

If I upgraded the athlon 64 3200 processor to an athlon x2 3800 would I see a performance increase?

Mike

I changed my 3200 winchester clocked at 2.7, to a 3800 x2 that also clocks at 2.7, in general you wont see much difference, but if you encode video or use any multi threaded apps, then you will see a difference, i can encode movies much faster now :)

Depends what performance you want.

I have a 3200 Clawhammer (754) running in this rig, and my other half is running a 3800 X2 (939). I don't feel much difference in day to day stuff.

If you are running jobs that take time and can be run in the background, then you will notice a big step. My PC may as well be switched off when encoding and ripping, the other halfs still is quite useable.

If you are looking for better performance in games then you need to update that 6800nu. (like me :))

Thanks for the help people :). I guess its not really worth me purchasing that cpu really atm unless the price suddenly drops. I have been thinking about updating my gfx card but since direct 10 cards are coming out in the near future I feel relucatant to do so.
