9 years ago I built myself a nice Athlon 64 system which has been pretty solid but struggles to cope these days. I've decided to bite the bullet and build something that can cope with a bit of photo and video editing as well as web and office use. I doubt I'll game with it and have no intention of overclocking. Based on that, I came up with the following system. I have a monitor, keyboard and mouse (also a Corsair HX 520W) and can get both Windows 7 and 8 for £12.50 through work. I'd appreciate any thoughts on improvements/cost cutting/things I've missed etc.

Intel Core i5-4570 3.20GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £161.99
Gigabyte Z87-D3HP Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £106.99
Corsair Vengeance Pro Red 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C9 2133MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit £89.99
Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM £71.99
Samsung 120GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic £86.99
Corsair Carbide 330R Silent Mid Tower Case - Black £74.95
Seasonic G series 450w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £69.98

Total £662.88

Thanks

What's your budget? If you already have a HX 520 then I would be tempted to reuse that, it's still a pretty good PSU.

If you don't mind reusing the HX 520W:

The i7 should help with the photo and video editing by a good fair bit over the i5. Decided to go with the K version just in case if you feel like overclocking in the future.

I had assumed i7 would be beyond my budget but apparently not! Koop should have also said that I have a dvd drive.
