Athlon 64 4000+ to Dual Core ? worth it

ive currently got a Athlon 64 4000+ CPU and ive been looking at getting a Dual Core since they seem very good. but..
is it worth me upgrading or should i just wait a while?
if i did get a Dual Core CPU what one will give me a better performance increase over what ive got now?? (im not intrested in overclocking )
and with AM2 Processors just comming out if im gonna get a new CPU shall i go down the AM2 path because it will be more future proof with it using DDR2 (how much faster is DDR2 over DDR memory any way?) it just means i will have to buy a new motherboard as well
shall i just save my money and wait for vista

I'd wait myself.

Given the pricing though I expect the 4000+ to become a favourite with enthusiasts in the way of the X2 3800+ as the extra L2 adds a few extra % to gaming performance.

i wouldn't bother with a motherboard/Ram/Cpu upgrade just to get an AM2

however, if you could sell your cpu and dont mind paying a bit to get a X2 and just drop it in to your existing motherboard then it might give you a nice boost depending on what you do with your pc.

i play a lot of games and use winrar a lot you know that sort of stuff converting films etc .

well, i dont think you will see much improvement in games (not until games utilise two cores (some have patches already) ) but the advantage you will have with a dual core is that you could encode/decode a film and still be getting on with something else at the same time.

its all a quesion of money and time.

would it be an advantage to you to be able to convert a film and say play a game at the same time ? or to convert a film and still have your pc responsive to be able to do something else while its doing it ?

to be honest i just surf the net (OCUK )when in doing some thing like converting a film or burning a disk so there is no worrys there .
and if im playing a game i try not to have anything going on in the background anyway
