Hi guys ive bought an Athlon X2 5000+ chip and im looking to try to unlock the extra cores as ive seen loads on forums about this. I was wondering if it is a specific batch of these chips or is it just luck.

My chip is:

AMD Athlon 50000GJ22GI
cacuc ac 0946cpmw

Im looking to put it into this motherboard GigaByte GA-MA770-DS3 or is there any other AM2+ board you would recommend.

This is the first time ive tried something like this so any help would be appreciated.

Cheers!

Well those two ACs in the code mean it's definately a Deneb. Whether it's a fully functional one or not is always down to chance.

I have one Athlon X2 5000+ (AM2+) and one X2 5200+ (AM3) that both unlock.

See threads here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18068218&highlight=phenom+fx5000

I found my 5000+ to be very power hungry. If you've not bought the motherboard yet, I would consider something with 140w CPU support (the gigabyte board you mentioned has 125w CPU support). Unlocked cores can take some extra juice to get stable.

Edit: http://www.cpu-world.com/step_codes/C/CACUC AC.html Your stepping is a shanghai not a deneb. Still , there's 4 cores and 6MB l3 cache on there. One way to find out...

Just bear in mind you have a cheap CPU there. No point in spending masses on a motherboard and cooling for a chance of unlock / overclock when you could have just bought a guarenteed kosher CPU in the first place.

Yeah basically the reason being i was looking for a Athlon 64x2 6000+ Brisbane and i bought this chip from ebay and the description and socket was wrong. Was listed as Athlon 64x2 5000+ Brisbane. Couldnt see all the text on the cpu from the pic due to flash and when it arrived it was the Athlon X2 5000+. Was only £20 and i reckon that gigabyte mobo i mentioned i could get for £30 so not gonna break the bank even if it doesnt unlock
