Hey, Im thinking up up grading my Athlon 6000+ X2 @ 3.11Ghz @ stock with a phenom II. I done a quick OC on it and benchmarked Far cry 2 and noticed a small but significant increase in min, adv and max fps. Would it be worth upgrading to a 720 phenom X3 or wait until AM3 quads with unlocked multipliers are released? I feel that the possibility of 3.6GHz would be useful as would an extra core but I dont know if its enough to warrent the upgrade just yet. Whats your opinions?

These chips are much faster then your athlon 6000+ (at same ghz), depending on your screen res/graphics setup it could be worth it.

If your in no rush, just wait for the new quads as they will be even better.

Im gaming on a 22" with a 512mb HD4870. ATM I mostly play Far Cry 2, crysis warhead, WOW and SupCom. I can wait until the X4's are out. My next upgrade is the processor since the card is still new and giving great performance. I would say the processor is the weakest area atm

You will see a small to big improvements in certain games, as your 6000X2 isn't driving your 4870 to its full potential :)

I run Crysis at 2048x1148 on max detail with my below spec. :)

My old Athlon X2 at 3.4GHz could run it without AA but had a few stutters when the action picked up.

Definite improvement going to Phenom II.

Yea, the motherboard will take it. Ive already updated the bios =) Now all I have to decide is between the X3 now or wait till the X4 BE's come out
