Athlon XP compared to C2D, clock per clock?

I'm upgrading from a socket A athlon XP to a c2d, and I was wondering how they compare?

I know the c2d is dual core, but say for example an app was just using the 1 core.

So how much faster would the c2d be at say 3ghz compared to an athlon XP clocked to 3ghz?

Doesn't have Athlon XP's on it but might give you some idea.
