Athlong x4 750k upgrade

Looking to upgrade my sons pc bit at a time.

Would a i3 4160 be an improvement over a 750k?

At the moment a r7 260x but going to change it to either a gtx 960 or r9 280.

Things like

Rocket league
Dirty bomb
Batman games
Lego

Or do i put a bit extra in and get a 8320?

I'd try to get a quad core really. If you don't mind buying second hand 3570k's go for about 100. That would certainly be a huge leap up from the one you have.

Work out your total budget first.
I would say buy a better GPU now and try that first, if your not happy with the results compare them with a similar set-up and then decide if you want to upgrade the rest.
A 3570K would cost around £100, then add another £70 for a Z77 Mobo.
My advice is to try the GPU first and report back.

Also, the Athlon is on FM2 whereas the 8320 would be AM3+ so totally different sockets and unless you have a spare AM3+ mobo knocking around totally not worth it imho.

An overclocked 750K shouldn't bottleneck a R9 280 or equivalent - please do some research first though, you may even be able to go for a 280X.
My lad runs a 6800K (which is similar performance to a 750K) and a R9 270 and it runs everything smooth, not on ultra settings but high.
