ATI 2900 Problem

Problems

Well..I'm having a nightmare with this new card!!

Installed the 7.6s to start...system is stable in 2D but when I start a 3D app (Any game) the 3D renderer starts and then locks the system hard and I have to reboot. I hear a bit of HDD thrashing just before the freeze up??
!!
Also, using Dreamscene locks the system..not a hard lock though - as if the CPU is spiked, but it isnt!!

I will try these betas but I want to get this card stable with the WHQL drivers first.

All my overclocking is disabled and system is at stock!!

Core Duo E6600 @ Stock
DS3 Rev 3.3 Bios F12
4GB Geil 6400 Ultra
HD2900XT 1GB
VISTA Ultimate - all updates

Everything I dont need is disabled in the bios!! Legacy USB etc...

Any ideas guys!!

Yh what PSU do you have, sounds like its underpowered when stressed in 3d. Are any of the cables loose on the card itself?

I have the Antec P190. 1 550W + 1 650W. I need to correct myself - I said that I had all my overclocking disabled! I do, but only my CPU etc.

I was running overdrive at max and that seems to be causing the issue. The card runs fine at stock clocks and temp are definatley not an issue.

Does look like the 650W PSU is under too much load with overdrive enabled on the 650w PSU, but only that PSU has PCIe 8Pin Connectors. The 550W only runs a couple of fans and hard disks and is modular, so I might get some Molex to PCIe adaptors and run the card from the 550w - see how that pans out.

th 6pin & 6+2pin (8pin) pcie is only needed for overdrive, you can use 2 6 pin pcie connectors to power the card and a third party tool to overclock.
