No you need atleast 1 Display port monitor, OR a active DVI > DP adapter, emphasis on the word active. Any other adapter won't work.

i think unknownsock is confused with the 5850
the 58 series cards can run 3 monitors using display port compatible monitors
the 48 series can only run two monitors at any one time you can have 3 connected but only 2 displaying
