hi
im no ati/amd fanboy but i really hope they pull this off
Well I am going on the review on xtreme forums by Jimmyz. He has pics of the cards, contents, benchmarks on a daily basis.
I have read the thread, and it's the main reason why i don't think that it's going to be 800SP. It's on par with a 8800GT in his benches. Maybe the drivers aren't getting the best out of the card, otherwise i can't understand why ATI would need to increase the number of SP by 2.5 to get a 20% increase in performance.
Didn't the Intel P4 vs AMD Athlon war teach you anything about the futility of comparing the clock speeds of different products? Now lets do some basic calcs for a 3870 vs 4850.
775mhz vs 625mhz = 80%
What are usual shipping costs from America? And would an American card work in an English mobo? If so, then it shouldn't be more than £130 which is good news because I'm buying one tomorrow or Thursday![]()
Yes, the card would work in any motherboard, there are no "English" motherboards. But don't forget that if you buy in the US you will have to pay VAT / duty on top of the price + shipping.
Think the same with a PSU and you'll be treated to a light show.
It has to be 800SP's or around that otherwise the 4850's would have to be clocked at around 1GHZ for the 1 teraflop mark and we already know that they aren't.
