Recently sold my GTX285 to make way either for FERMI or a 5970 when FERMI is released which ever works out best price verses performance ratio. So i has to buy a stop gap card to tide me over until March or April time,in the end i decided on an ATI4850 and wasn't expecting much just a make do card untill i purchase my new card.

I was very surprised to drop down from a GTX285 to a 4850 which was a lot cheaper to purchase to see that in game i honestly cant see where the extra money i was paying for the nvidea card was going,i had a really good gaming experience on all the games i play at a reasonable resolution 22 inch screen at high settings,i may have to reconsider the amount of money i shall be paying out for a new card come April ie £400- £500 pound versus £75.00 for the 4850..

Just had a blast on Dragon Age,1680,1050 res all settings on high and had no slow down or stuttering at all, plus i think the image quality is sligthtly better.I am very impressed and may keep this card a little longer untill the price of these new cards drop a little.

Helped thet i got a good price for my GTX285,i was really worried that i would have to make to much of a compromise,i couldnt have been more wrong though.

Lol...aren't console conversions wonderful....

Baseline gfx card specs from 2005, ensure that nearly all the games relesed today on Pc's, will run just about on any (now) budget Pc gfx card at max settings.

Im running Dirt 2 at DX9 max settings on a 4850, and i rarely (apart from replays) drop below 60fps.

Pc's wont really be pushed again in terms of gfx, until a new gen of consoles based on DX11 or DX12 are launched....apart from the very odd bespoke Pc only game, that is.

Now, i've been tempted to get this card as a short term upgrade from my 3850.I'd like a 5770, but it's a bit out of my price range.I'm curious, do you think the 4850 would run alright on a 350 watt Seasonic PSU?

Hi as you've noticed, something like the 5750/5770/GTX260/4850/4870 are really all you need right now at 1680x1050 unless you need a constant 60fps with everything maxed in every game. A lot of games right now don't really push the boundaries, and until DX11 really takes off that's likely to remain the way it is as the overall dislike of Vista and DX10 being both cripped and limited to Vista causes some massive issues in pushing forward the capabilities of PC games.

Higher end setups are really only needed if you have low tolerance levels, or play at higher resolutions (or want something that will last longer).
