ATI 4870 Specs

Old and wrong. Current specs are:

800 shaders
40 TMUs
16 ROPs
256-bit memory interface.

Core clocks:
625MHz for the 4850
750MHz for the 4870

Memory:
1986MHz GDDR3 for the 4850
3600MHz GDDR5 for the 4870

The 4870 X2, R700, should basically double the 4870's specs.

will it be double the price too?
either way that'll be one hell of a card

Seems likely, as was the case with the 3870 X2, however by the time the 4870 X2's coming out the 4870 will be a bit cheaper (as the X2 part isn't coming for another 6 weeks or so). I fully expect the 4870 X2 to come out at less than £400.

While I don't think they're going to be £400, I still think their proper retail price will still be $499 or under, these cards have the potential to be very very fast.

In some situations where the 4870 beats the GTX280, a 4870X2 could be coming up to, or even more than twice as fast as a GTX280 if we continue to see the crossfire scaling improvements we've been seeing lately.

Some games are scaling at 100% and over! Yeah I know over 105% is within the margin of error, but still extremely impressive of course.
