ATI 5850 - Dual Monitor Issue

Hi, bought a Sapphire 5850 from OC a while back. Tried to use a 2nd monitor - I have a few I can use but all of them come up and are very very dim. I can see what im dragging onto the 2nd output but its like its on 1/100 brightness.

Im using the 2nd DVI output with a VGA convertor (ive tried 2 - same result).

Im going to try DVI out direct if I can find another cable.

Ive also updated drivers to the latest.

If the 2nd monitor is switched on and off, its shows briefly and then goes back to being dim - almost like its going into a protection mode. Even at post - it will show something - then stop showing anything.

Could my card be faulty?

Ok, tried with known working monitor and with DVI direct, no VGA convertor - it works, even if the monitors are reversed.

So you don't get the problem with DVI but you do with VGA? Sounds like a dodgy VGA adapter/cable.

That is the pattern but im using both the VGA cable and adaptor on a 2nd machine and they work without an issue.

Ok - seems all 3 monitors I was trying are stuffed. They come on briefly and then go off. Whats the chance? I got them free, so not complaining but were told they had been tested and were working.
