ATI 5850 Eyefinity Group and Monitor Detection Help needed

Hi,

I have the 10.1 ATI Catalyst Control Center and driver installed with a ATI HD 5850 card on Windows 7 64bit.

The graphics card recognizes the 3 monitors (HP LP-2475W), however, windows 7 only displays content on the 1 DVI and 1 Displayport connected monitor. The third monitor connected by DVI only shows the POST screen and goes to sleep after Windows 7 boots up.

I tried to get Windows 7 on all three monitors by creating a group in CCC, but CCC said that in order to create a group it needed to disable the monitors in extended desktop mode, so I clicked "YES", and then I lost all of my displays. So now when I boot into windows I get three blank monitors.

Any help on how to resolve this would be appreciated.

Many Thanks,
David

Thanks. But, when I boot into Safe Mode, then what?

I tried to open CCC in Safe Mode, but it wouldn't open saying that the driver wasn't installed. I'm assuming this is because it's in safe mode.

Do I need to go into the Control Panel under displays and enable something?

Many Thanks,
David

I uninstalled in Safe mode, and reinstalled and now I have the displays working, however, the 2nd DVI port on the ATI 5850 will not support a resolution above 1680x1050...

I checked that the cable is working by using the 1st DVI port and the monitor works at full resolution 1920x1200.

When I plug the same monitor into the 2nd DVI port with the same cable, I get a blank screen after Windows 7 starts as it's trying to push 1920x1200, and when i turn the res down to 1680x1050, it will show windows...

I think I've narrowed it down to the fact that there could be a problem with the DVI port. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
David

I figured it out.

1. I plugged in the Display Port monitor and booted into Windows 7.
2. With everything on, and in Windows, I connected the two other monitors with DVI.
3. The middle displayport monitor went blank and the left monitor using DVI went blank. The primary display moved to the right DVI monitor.
4. I right clicked the desktop and chose "Screen Resolution"
5. From there, I was able to choose Extend the desktop to the other two monitors, and I was able to set them to full 1920x1200 resolution.

Now it all works, I haven't yet tried eyefinity, but all three monitors are working and are identified and setup in the correct confguration. I'm not sure why all this wasn't plug n play, but at least it's not a hardware problem.

Hope this helps if anyone else goes through this mess.

Best,
David
