ATI 5850 HDMI Audio Problem

Hey Guys,

Had my new PC a while now and I bloody love it. Dont have any graphics crashes or anything anymore and it works great.

I do however have one small issue, and that is the sound through the HDMI.

I currently have the sound from my computer going through HDMI into my Toshiba telly, and then from that into a set of speakers using a headphone cable (not a very sophisticated set up I know, but it works great).

To the problem... Basically, if the sound is not in use from the graphics card, the sound seems to turn off because when I then play a sound, it cuts off the first 1 - 2 seconds or so, and then plays fine after that. I first noticed it when playing some 4 second wav files. I had to put media player on repeat to hear the whole thing. It also cuts off the start of songs on iTunes and Spotify.

I have had a look on the net to no avail, and before contacting ATi, I thought i'd see you guys first.

I don't hear the windows log on/log off sounds as they are too short. It does it even when there has been no audio for about 5 seconds.

Hopefully you guys can help, it is quite annoying.

Cheers.

Cripple.

PS Hope you all have a great christmas ;)

sorry mate, have nothing. but as we have the same graphics cards, we both know the ati drivers at the moment are as reliable as a crackhead as a personal saving account. I suggest you contact ATI/AMD or wait till someone a bit more technical replies :P what drivers are you running?

If the above doesnt work then can i ask you try another logicial method.

Connect the HT PC to my TV via HDMI. Then use the normal sound output (OnBoard Motherboard or Soundcard) into your Speakers. And then on your Sound Settings in Windows XP (prosuming you have XP as your OS) make sure your default sound is your Onboard motherboard or Soundcard.

I tried the drivers, and it appears to have fixed it. So far. I'll have to see how I get on. Thanks for your help guys.
