So,

I have a 5850, and its cool and quiet, and seems to do the trick.

Problem is I have a 30" display, so game and stuff runs quite slow.

GTA4 at this rez is rather jerky.

Whats best to upgrade to? I dont wanna pay serious dosh for something like a 580, the 480 seems too loud and hot compared to the 5 series, and I am confused to hell about Ati's new 6 series.

How slow/fast is the Nvidia 560? I saw one bench in metro 2033 where it was only 3 or 4 frames behind a 580.

How can that be so close?? Was it just a freak occurence?

Im so confused, I just want the best "value" card for the money, spending hundreds for a few frames more just isnt my game.

Can anyone advise?

Many thanks.

Hi there,

Can your motherboard and PSU support a second 5850 in crossfire?

If so, then this would be an excellent way to spend £108.

If your board doesn't support crossfire, but your PSU is good - then a GTX 480 like this would be a decent upgrade.

Also, please note that pretty much no PC plays GTA4 "well", and isn't really worth spending money to make it run better. Its just a badly ported game that eats up CPU time and video memory.

isnt the gtx 480 really hot and noisey?

ivd got a 550w psu in a server case, and i dont wanna get into the hassle of upgrading the psu!
Psu upgrade would be needed at extra cost with the 480, standard 480's are hot and noisey, the gigabyte ones are quiet but take three slots and have issuses with a lot of psu's.

The 2gb 6950 reference 1 bios flashed to 6970 or unlocked shaders is the best "value"and it will(regardless whether it's badly coded or not) play GTA4 well as the game wants loads of memory.

The 6950>70 will beat the 560, overclocked or not in most games:

6950>70 V 560
