hi, i need to decide weither i should get a single 5870 or 4890 is crossfire?
4890 in crossfire whipes the floor of the 5870 (yes i know 2 gpu's vs 1)
but i aint bothered about that. Plus, when some one ask's you what card ahve you got "ive got 4890 in crossfire mate :P) lol you know what i mean?
I have got the p5q pro p45 motherboard and it is corssfire compatable?
What should i do then, 5870 or 4890 cf???
Btw, i aitn bothered about dx11 as its just going 2 be a fail like dx10, oly a few games plus dx10 looks good lol
Thanks

5870, always better to go for a single card set up, plus your system will be more power efficient and run quieter, if you ever needed to add a second later its cheaper solution in long run than then having to replace the 2 4890s. Also yeah P45 does crossfire but only at x8/x8 not x16/x16 so another reason for the single card set up

hmm i dont know, the 4890's is the same price as 1 5870 and has more fps, plus next year im getting the core i7 so 16 x 16 also, i will be gaming on 1680 x 1050.

+1, these new chip really are worth it

Though I would give the 5850s a look (if you can find the bloody things), they are £100 cheaper than the 5870s and not that much less powerful. One will certainly play all current games happily at FullHD. Also, the cheaper price tag means you could get a second one earlier and spend less.

The p45 8x/8x limitation will make no difference with two 4890's and even with two 5870's you only loose a few percent.

But as said, selling your 4890 and getting a 5870 now to perhaps add another one later is the better long term bet.

Financially though that will cost you almost £200 whereas a 2nd 4980 from MM would only set you back £100 and that's a lot of performance for the money if your not bothered about dx11.

However, what res do you game at? There are other considerations over just dx11 to buy a 5xxx series such as power requirements and the fact that they hardly drop any framerates with 8x AA so the gap between the 4890's and a 5870 might be closer than you think.

I game at 1680 x 1050, atm i have the 8800gt and i can play a few games on max but not all. I dont know what to do lol, if i got the 4890's in cf, then next year i wanted more frame rates, i would sell up then consider somthing else but i dont think i would need to. Dx11, i aint bothered about as only a few games will run dx11 plus dx10 looks amazing so lol. its a hard 1, please keep the suggections coming tho :D

IIRC from reading reviews, 3GHz on ur Q6600 will bottleneck a crossfire solution so if u dont go i7 u'll be best to get that up to 3.3GHz+

Yeah im thinking that but what my plan is, on the 20th, get the card(s), pick up another 2gb memory, and the h50 watercooling and getting 3.2ghz out of her.
She doing really well atm, 20 idle and when gaming, she goes up to 42 on artic freezer 7 aswell lol

I would love to do that, but honestly, playing games such as new call of duty etc, play it high settings and then it lags when on multiplayer or what ever, really ****es me off!!!

Modern Warfare 2 is going to be using the same engine as the first game, just improved. Call of Duty: World at war uses the same engine and gets around 120FPS at your resolution (highest settings).

I'd wager you won't get much lag in MW2 :D

Edit: as 95thrifles says, it is likely your internet connection as opposed to your 8800gt that is causing the lag.

Made my mind up people :P, my dad will drop me off to get 1 4890 tmorrow, then on the 20th when i get paid :P, get the other 4890 and get another 2gb memory :P ill post pics up tmorrow on the card etc installation then on the 20th the 2

So you ask for advice and then disregard all of it...well done.

:p just kidding (a little), in any case I don't think you will be disappointed with a 4890 CF setup
