ATI 5870 upgrade to ...?

If there's no urgency, why not wait until the 7XXX series given that they're supposed to be due next month?

I'm looking to upgrade from a 1GB 5850 and was on the verge of ordering a 2GB 6950 or 6970 last week but have decided to wait as the 7 series ought to provide a significant improvement based on a number of recent informative posts here:

There is no rush at all, just wondering what my options are.

crossfire is a no go as I don't have the space in my case and I prefer a single card solution anyway.
 
You're next major upgrade would either be a GTX 580 or a next gen top end card for a significant increase in raw power and hopefully lower power consumption. I would have got the 580 if i could afford it :(.
