Ok, a pre-note.

I have dug out an old setup, and I am rebuilding it into a basic little gamer.

System is

Saphire PureBlack X58 Mobo
Intel I7-980 & CoolIt A.I.O CPU cooler ( Temps are a nice 32-38c )
6x 4GB GSkill RipJaws ( 24GB )
ATI 5950 Dual GFX Card
C: = 2 x 60GB Transcend mStata Cards in a RAID0 Drive
D: = 2 x 1.5TB Seagate

Now, when I first knocked it up, I was using a GTX470 and I could not get it to play with more than 16GB, and that was until I rememebered that I had also bought this ATI card and sop I thought I would finally get to use this for a giggle, and I noticed that the RAM was showing up as 24GB again.

That may be something abotu these issues, I dont know?

I installed Windows and everything went just fine, but installing the ATI Drivers seemed to be the cause of issues.

First of all, latest cats did not seem to work the card, and so going bac ka few, I found that v12 was one that worked the card and it moaned abotu newer drivers ( 15.7 ) and I have 15.1 so I threw 15.1 in, but again, it moaned about 15.7 and so bugger it, I downloaded them and this was when it started to have the issues... Explorer seems to have stopped working.

I was gettign this every few seconds.

I ended up simply opening up the task manager and running explaoere though that, just so I could uninstall the ati cats.

The thign is, that I cannot stop it doing this now?

I have had to manually go in, and remove everything to do with ATI and then reinstall the v12 drivers, where it does allow me to use the better graphicsa and the basic catalyst program, however, when I try to open a game, it crashes with the graphics not being initialized?

Is the card at fault?

Are the drivers the issue?

Has that issue with the RAM only showing 16GB when I used the nVidia card got anything to say for itself?

Anyone have any thoughts?

I would use DDU to remove all the gpu drivers and re install 15.7 from scratch.

get the PC to boot in to safe mode and then run DDU.

does the ati card work with the full amount of ram?

could always try a cmos re set by taking the battery out for while.

if you want to check your ram run memtest

Hmm.. Well. ok yeah, I didnt use DDU, but I did use Autoruns and the manual way once again. I re-downloaded 15.7.1 ( just in case ) and yes, absolutely a full BIOS reset after leaving it without the battery for a while.

Seems to have now gone in.

Weird one that... Really annoyed me.

Thanks.
