generally ati + linux =

if you stick to 2d and dont expect video accelleration then you should be ok.

If there is a catalyst driver for it then it will work. of course you are free to pay extortionate prices for an NDivia. If your planning to game then I suggest you have a windows partition handy. While Wine is good, it's not perfect!

Works fine for me, but from past experience they can be very hit and miss.

Yep, this is on the latest version of Ubuntu, previous version of Ubuntu and Mint were problematic with the display.

ATI 6850 - 99.95 Black Friday special - installed. Linux 11.10 x64 LiveCD booted right up !! There was a brief period of graphical corruption, < 5 seconds, and my heart sank, but then it came right and all is well !
