Hi Guys,

Just built a new i7 2600k system, Asus P8P67-M PRO Intel P67 Motherboard, 8GB RAM and an ATI 6850. All installed fine and got it setup... until I went to attach my secondary monitor - which will not get 'detected' by Windows. I've tried plugging the monitor into the top port and it works fine, but won't see my previously-working monitor.

I've tried another PCI-e slot and again, same thing. Both of my monitors are VGA, and are not the same - could my monitors be at fault.

Any advice appreciated. Am suspicous that it's the card, but want advice before having go through the RMA process... particularly as the motherboard doesn't haven an onboard GPU!

Many Thanks,

James

Not 100% sure on this but I think the second DVI slot is only DVI-D and cannot be converted to VGA. Try a DP->VGA connection instead?

Correct.

Only one of the DVI ports can be used with a VGA adapter. The other one is DVI-D so only has a digital signal, there's no analogue signal for VGA.

You'll need an adapter for DisplayPort to VGA. You need to check if you have a mini Displayport connection like the two in the bottom left of this picture:

or a full size DisplayPort like the one in the bottom left of this picture:

My 6950 only does one VGA output via DVI. It's probably the same as the 6850. On my card it actually has VGA stamped into the backplate next to the supported DVI connector.

Yeah I got it now, a "DP" .

Also go check previous post edit times, just saying.

Don't think you get out of it that easily.

I edited as the pictures weren't displaying properly.

The information about requiring a DisplayPort to VGA adapter were in my original post 7 minutes before your superfluous comment.

Just saying

Thanks guys - I'm looking at getting new monitors anyway, so now seems the time to get them! Any recommendations welcome. Looking at something around the 20" - 22" mark. Primary uses are web design, development and application development as well as virtual machines etc.
