Hi,

My system has been running fine on the ATI drivers on the CD I got with my powecolor 4870 but I discovered that i needed to update them for GTA IV. Using the 8.11 drivers (installed correctly) I start getting random BSODs when playing games or using VLC.

BSODs were generally 0x00000050

Switching back to my old drivers now.

Anyone know what this is?

I used the ati method on their website using the ati install manager

What should I be doing?

Honestly rodo, cut yer losses and stick the 8.12 betas in found here or wait 2 days for the finals. Fixed a multitude of errors right across the board for me ... I stuck them in straight over the top of 8.11s (which weren`t as good as the 8.10s IMO anyway).

There are two trains of thought here. Some use driver sweeper, some use the ATi uninstall manager. I`ve done both, never had a problem either way. CCC reports which driver is installed as does device manager. Whatever floats yer boat :)

I was getting crashes in VLC and KMPlayer last night when watching a 1080i copy of UF's SEC championship. The AVIVO tab within CCC would also fail when clicking upon it and have to be shut down via Task Manager. The 8.11 drivers are also slower for me than the 8.8 drivers.

I had installed them by using the uninstall utility and drivercleaner.net first.
