ATI 9700 driver problem

Hello all,

I've been having a few problems when running certain games recently, so I tried installing the most recent drivers for my Radeon 9700. I uninstalled the drivers that were there, and then used Driver Cleaner to do the rest.

I then tried installing the drivers (7.12), and was told that they weren't compatible with my hardware or something like that.

The most recent Catalyst drivers do say that they support the 9700, but I tried 7.11 anyway (after running Driver Cleaner again). That went much the same way.

SO, I then ran Driver Cleaner and ran Windows Update to see what drivers it picked up. It found the drivers I had already been using, but had a bit of a fit installing the primary display drivers.

I've gone back to a restore point I created, but still want to find out why the newer Catalyst drivers are proving me problems. Anyone else still had this happen?

I don't think the catalyst drivers have supported AGP cards since version 7.7, as far as I know, all the later ones give an error message when trying to do anything with 3D.

That was the case with an x1950 pro AGP that I tried as well as a 9600?

This is a bug in the driver package, ATI have known about it for a while yet not bothered to fix it. You can, however, obtain the latest 7.12 Omega drivers, which have this issue fixed. Currently only available for XP mind.
