I have two Pc's:

1. 3.2ghz Prescott, 2gb ram, 6800 (standard) - AGP
2. 3.2ghz Prescott, 2gb ram, ATIX800XT PE - AGP

I'm thinking of waiting till next summer before I take the plunge for a complete system overhaul, but in the mean time I'm looking for a reasonable boost in the graphics dept by upgrading the cards in both PCs.

Should I go for the 7800GS 512mb AGP in both Pcs or wait for the ATI1950 256mb AGP model due end of november? I know that I will need shader 3.0 for the PC with the ATI because it only supports Shader 2.00.

The 7800GS are more expensive for two, but the ATI's are that bit cheaper.

The 7800GS is quite possibly the worst value for money in a card since the Geforce 5800Ultra. Buy a 7600GT instead. Or two of them.

- hes right about the regular 7800GS - I wouldn't have thought it true but I just benched one against the theoretical scores of the other and checked hardware specs and the 7600GT AGP does indeed seem to be about 10% faster... tho the 7800GS+ (based on a 7900GT) is a different story.

X1950 Pro should be the best value high end AGP card and a decent upgrade to either of the PCs you have listed. As already noted the X1x00 series support SM 3.0, not that it makes much difference but yes it is there :p
