ATI (AMD) and NVIDIA Fix Prices in the US, Class Action Slapped Against them

Class actions charged against NVIDIA and ATI (now AMD) reveal that the two companies may have staged a competition over the past half-a-decade or so. A judge read out an email which suggested price fixing was rife in the graphics card market. That follows a class action of 51 different plaintiffs, now combined into one, and across different legal jurisdictions, alleging cartel behaviour not only in graphics chips, but flat panels and CRTs too.

I take it then this was prior to AMD's takeover? it would explain why ATI cards are cheap as chips all of a sudden. :p

If this succeeds, anyone want to set up a class action in the UK? Itll mean compensation for everyone who bought ati/nvidia cards in this period.

AMD must be well ******. Not only are they liable for something they didnt do, theyll now look like hypocrites when accusing Intel.

Considering I bought a X850XT PE around that time when they were difficult to get and were £350+ Id be interested in a recoup :p. Took 3months to source it too...

Buyers Remorse ;)

ps3ud0

Because that is the real price for the top end tech in the first place & AMD stopped playing the over the top price for the topend card with Nvida but did not tell them. :)

It's something I cannot understand about many folks here..........

They constantly decry Nvidia and applaud ATI, because Nvidia, whlie offering quicker products, charge more for them and are nasty businessmen.

Then 2 posts later tell someone not to touch a Phenom with a bargepole, but to get a Q6600 which is faster, costs more and comes from a company with a record as bad or worse than Nv.

Baffling.

Maybe if he prayed he may get an answer ;)

Always seemed like if one company had worse cards they were cheaper, so not sure on price fixing, apart from not lowering prices etc.
