I was just wondering if ATI offers any 3D features like the Nvidia cards do, its not a secret that currently the Nvidia cards kinda suck so i was just wondering if theres a ATI alternative that would allow me to set up a 3D rig.

not that ive heard of. i think with ati you need a 3rd party to provide the glasses etc, whereas with nvidia its a kit

Yes, the latest drivers have enabled 3D vision on ATI cards, but you need a certain brand of monitor, glasses and software and I cant remember the name of that brand.

that sucks tbh u know people slate the gtx 480 but in fairness nvidia have got in there with partnership with panasonic for thier new 2010 tv's and others i think..

u simply use the glasses for your own tv and it will do games in 3d via software, world of warcraft is even in 3d ffs :(

lame ati

Im not interested in these active shutter technologies, I wanna know how i can get my pc producing 3d output compatible with the new range of TVs that use passive glasses

Even the 120hz shutters still have the issue that unless you play in a dim/dark room the light from the room itself just turns into a 60hz strobe and can give you a headache fairly quickly

I do like the 3d though, had the chance to try it out yesterday at the gadget show live so i was fairly saddened to see that for PC gaming it seems to be the choice of nvidia shutters or in ATIs case.. special approved DLP monitors

Can use (and have been able to fow along while) Anaglyph 3D with iz3d driver. Not a bad stopgap till other solutions are available / affordable

Panasonic are doing the industry standard, it will work with any of the new 3d solutions :p
They are essentially doing a roadshow with Nvidia rather than being limited to any technological solution

ATI haven't released a 3d solution yet but it is incoming, i think it will be more successful as they are doing an open solution compared to nvidia's proprietary one.

At the moment i think Nvidia edges it in terms of quality tho, personally i am waiting to see how the whole 3d gaming thing pans out before i go one way or the other

I think the biggest shame about 3D is that we need a 120hz display to utilise it. Its a shame they couldn't get it to work with normal 60Hz tvs, if they did I think it would be taken up allot quicker. This is of course ignoring the coloured glasses approach which totally ruins the colours.

too bad tvs use active shutter glasses as well. nvidia 3d vision + 120hz projector is very affordable and completely blows away any of these overpriced 3d tvs.

Last couple of times I've been in Harrods AV section, there was a TV doing 3D. LG I think? I wasn't wearing glasses at all! God knows what was going on to be honest:confused::confused:

i think ATI is working with samsung to bring glassesless screens to become more affordable.

But... but... how? Must be magic, I guess - 2 wizards casting spells into each of your eyes, right? But then how does it work for multiple viewers? More wizards?

Wiki time maybe....

been using the nVidia active shutter tech since Jan in a nice dark room and been playing for hours on end without headaches, I've read reports from some that do but just for reference, no problems here even in a dark room
