I have been talking with a few guys, and they seem to think that ATi drivers are garbage compared to Nvidia and also that the reason Nvidia drivers are crap is because there concentrating on Vista, yet ATi still manage to release drivers monthly for XP :s

Anyone can sum this up?

Also, am I right when I say, people upgrade to the 8800 series for DX9, as there more powerfull than all other cards, and not for DX10 as by the time DX10 is out, 8800 is old and new stuff is gonna be out, and performance wont be the greated iwth the 8800 series.

I think the otherway TBH.

Never had problems with ATi Drivers while nvidia ones always gave me issues.

Guess its random TBH.

Thats what you get when you mix hardware, software and users - billions of combinations and some aren't gonna work as well as others, and this is exactly why OS X works so well, cos there is like 10 sets of hardware it has to work on.

Its all change now, boots on the other foot, back in the days of the Gf2/3/4's etc... Nvidia drivers you couldn't fault, was ATi's that were pants then, my how things change.

Nvidia's 8 series drivers (all 3x sets of em, yes that many in over 5 months) are complete garbage, im using the beta 101.02's as they seem about the best, which wouldn't be hard seen as theres not exactly a lot out there :D , going back to ATi when the R600's come out me, they support their cards as you said, a full official WHQL release every month, where as Nvidia is when they can be arsed. :)

Yes the 8800's are being bought for Dx9, no point buying them for Dx10 when its not here yet, and when it is the 8 series are going to be the slowest cards you can get for it, and old hat, which they are now as they are over 5 months old already as said and Dx10 is still not here. :p

I predict a flamefest. :p

On a serious note, it depends what card and O/S you're using. I personally prefer Nvidia drivers as I use Linux quite a bit and play Doom III.

Other users will have no problems with ATI drivers.

Look at what software you're going to be using and do a bit of research, if there are any glaring problems with Nvidia or ATI choose the other, if not it's down to personal preferance.

Bottom line, choose what's best for you.

Yeah i must admit theres a lot of ppl happy with Nvidia's driver approach, we'll release a set of drivers when we can be ******* arsed. :)

Doesn't instill much confidence in you does it for choosing them for Vista when their XP support is non existant.

I summed it up in another post :-

ATi = full set of WHQL official drivers every month for both XP and Vista.

Nvidia = 3x sets of WHQL Official XP drivers in over 5 months, not sure how many Official WHQL Vista driver sets they have released, but they dont do drivers every month, last Official WHQL Vista drivers 100.65 released Feb 20th, were now in April.

If iirc the ONLY WHQL set  :( ,

Have to say the 101.70 beta is at least useable for me.

Gonna try those 101.70 now :)

I just installed the latest Official Vista drivers from Nvidia, and there the worst crap ever to come out, in TDU, in the city, its unplayable, UT2004 is now 100% unplayable since I getting lag all the time I cant get a decent aim, so if these drivers dont work, back to XP and going to install Sabayon Linux over Vista, I mean, games aint designed for Linux, but ones that are emulated in Cedega run a damnd sight better than in Windows Vista :p

I have a feeling that some of the Vista issues will require a Vista update, rather than new drivers. I'm sticking with XP until there's a reason to get Vista (Crysis).

Nv's 97.92 XP drivers work fine with all my games, so I haven't bothered even trying the 97.94, 97.95, 101.3 or 101.7 drivers. Some people seem to love upgrading their drivers as often as possible, but I only upgrade drivers if I have a problem that requires a driver fix, or there's a significant performance boost.

Looks like nvidia have really dropped the ball with the 8*00 series, great card but poor drivers. I would've probably bought one by now if I hadn't checked how people were getting on with them. I'm currently running 7800 gtx's Sli'd and I've barely had a problem, mainly just games not recognising Sli propoerly so no performance boost. I've also got a huge Lian Li PC70b, water cooling and all which is soon to be a server as I'm going to be going to a smaller unit for my gaming system, maybe sff or just a midi tower (getting everything in an MG TF for lans is nigh on impossible at the moment!). So a smaller card would be good, have to see what the power consumption is...

It's a shame the r600 has been so long in coming, hopefully it'll be a decent option though. Only time will tell.

The only way I can play CSS is to force DX8.1 otherwise I get a nasty fog effect on players and objects at a distance. I've just come back from i30 were in the tournament games servers were forcing DX9 the most annoying thing ever!!

ATIs r for sure better then nVids on Vista. Only thing am getting on Vista is it seems the words almost look jagged/blurry.

anyone else has any thing like this

Well, with my X800XTPE, I liked Vista, I posted a big post on another forum about my experiences with Vista, game ran better, better performance and image quality, now with the 8800, games run worse in Vista than they do with my X800XTPE in Vista, image quality is bad in Vista for me, its just a mess, I am going to see if 64Bit will be any different, but if not, back to XP, the good looks of Vista have worn off now, Window Blinds in XP has worn off, I stick with the good ol luna and XP which is at least almost reliable in games.
