ATI, Bad Drivers?

I do not thik a reinstall of an OS is needed for every new driver but when you are switching from one component maker to another with things like gfx cards it can be the best thing so that help can be offered in a more efficient way. If someone has done a fresh install then we can be sure there is no old remnants left over to be causing a problem. Being honest i am getting really sick of the fanboyism on these gfx card forums with morons from both camps taking an chance to have a pop for no other rason then being an idiot and helping and contributing absolutely nothing of any value.

To those saying re-installing the OS is 'drastic' realistically it's one of the fastest methods to solve a problem.

I re-install windows every few months, it takes so little time that it doesn't take any effort to do.

To be fair, I've been re-installing mostly due to new builds of windows 7, but other than that I don't mind re-installing if I get a major issue, it's actually quicker than spending a few hours trouble shooting and problem solving.

To people slating ATi drivers, get real, all driver vendors have issues with their drivers. You're just as likely to get issues with drivers for any other component.

Any issues I've had with drivers lately have been down to windows itself (win 7) not liking the drivers I'm installing.

Since they made win 7 WHQL drivers, they've been fine.

I agree with Kylew as you can spend days looking for a fix and not even resolve the problem and then are forced to reinstall which then fixes the problem most of the time. I have all my important stuff on another drive so reinstalling most of my stuff is usually quicker than trying a lot of thing that don't resolve the problem.

I now have a partition with a clean install on it when i think the time has come i just copy the partition back over 15 minutes tops and i have a clean install again.

Bad storage practice is a curse for a lot of computer users: sticking everything on the C: drive and complaining it takes ages to do anything is pretty standard fare, it would seem. :)

lulz

Google is wrong simple as you only have to look on these forums for the real truth ;).

The argument is not about who has more.
Its about people who like to pretend that a brand has none & more so the unnecessary need to flame as soon as someone has a problem on the other brand.

Funny, because if you take the more accurate search, using "problem" rather than "problems" (searching for "problems" will not return a match for "I have a problem", but searching for "problem" will match that and also "I have problems".....never search for plurals, it excludes singular results) the numbers flip round to become.......

NV 1150000
ATI 1260000

Oh, and re-installing the OS is the MOST drastic change you can make in software. I keep all my games on another drive, and all my important stuff miles away from any damned windows box.....but it takes DAYS to turn off this annoying "feature" and cripple that pathetic bit of carpware, while running round trying to make the machine look and act like a computer and not a learning tool for a very young child with serious special needs.

It wouldn't be so bad were it not for all the program looping it does to waste time and the CONSTANT bleating for attention, and the fact that you're in deep trouble if you KVM away to a proper computer during the winstall, because it switches it's hardware detection off while installing.ARRRRRRGGGHHH!!!!!

rant over.

I was being sarcastic hence the wink i know and you know neither company is perfect on the driver front and by and large they balance each other out but the way certain posters go on you would never think that was the real truth.

There are people who will always find something to put something down as really bad & no matter how small the difference in a need to find a difference.

Take away the driver difference issue between the 2 & they will move onto another insignificant issue to make a mountain of.
