ATI Catalyst 8.11 Released

Nah, rather it end's up in a troll fest when fan boy's start defending their ATi cards.

Honestly... What are you doing in this thread?
It's about the latest driver release, you don't own an ATI card and have a sour dislike of their cards.
You've brought this thread down, top stuff. Troll. ;)

Regarding the 8.11's... I'll grab these at work tomorrow.
Has anyone had any issues with fan control on these? With the 8.10's I found I couldn't set my fan control manually. (Overdrive box was checked)
The last hotfix seemed to get round this issue, just hoping it wont raise its head again.

I've not had any issues in the games I've played so far (don't own Far Cry 2) but keeping up to date is always good. Especially with CoD : WaW coming out. :)

About the same as the Hotfix 8.10s for me thus far on a 4870 1Gb, though losing about 3fps on FC2 demo. Installed November edition DX runtime though yesterday, may or may not be connected, just saying :)

Major trolls that seem to have nothing better to do than start and GFX war are...

Congrats to them..

Sorry but OT I know,
But like many I am sick of every driver , new card thread turning out to be a shouting match to see who's got the biggest "E"peen

:)

You cant call me a troll.... I was stating what I think is a fact, no one can use such an excuse as I switched to NV due to driver release schedules..... Fair enough if it is buggy drivers that are giving heaps of problems for some reason or problem cards, then only thing to do is switch..

And I don't think you know what that word means since this is in no way competition at all....

Also, if you wish to call someone a troll, do think about what you post first, as you've just made yourself out to be the actual troll.

:)

Congrats to you..

Anyway, enough of responding to people who want to provoke a bigger argument.

Back on topic anyway sorry about that everyone else.

I'll try the 8.11 drivers tonight, I hope to find some proper performance improvements in DX10 so I'm on par with what other people with the 4870 seem to be getting and maybe solve some glitches I am getting in TDU, doubt it will though as TDU is an old game now.

Loaded lovely on my Quad core Crossfire set up running XP SP3. Benched a fraction higher than the 8.10s but yet to test in game, Will post back once I've been on a few servers etc.
colour seems more vibrant but then I Always think that after a Driver change :p

Personally I use the Ati remover in Add/Remove first, reboot, hit cancel a zillion times then instal the new,Reboot jobs a good'un. As said earlier the only time you need driver cleaner etc is when you switch from Ati to Nvid or Nvid to Ati.

so whats the general thoughts on these drivers then? worth the time?

<OT>
is there an ignore feature anywhere so i can block posts from certain people? getting fed up of the same carp everywhere around here these days. I see an interesting thread or one which i would like some good info from and all i see is dummy throwing contests for 90% of the thread.

You can always look into the release notes. If your current drivers are stable and the "fixes" don`t apply to you, then you may not wanna bother :)

Still get stuttering in Far Cry 2 under DX10

The benchmark tool sometimes stutters but the game is fine for me. One thing I did do (spotted the tip on another forum but forgot which one so can`t give credit) was to disable visual themes (right click Games folder, customise, edit, compatibility and disable from there). It stopped my random crashing to desktop :)

No better/worse than the 8.10s or the hotfixes for me. Still getting a VPU recover error within 10-15 mins of playing any game. Wonder if it's overheating - what's a safe temp for these cards? I'm idling at 60C.

Some 8.12 info. :)

Load temp is what's important. My card idles at 49c and at full load it can reach 58-60c after playing Fallout 3 for a couple of hours or so. I have a PowerColor PCS+ 4850 512MB, which has a different cooler to the reference design (+ a slight overclock on the core) so perhaps my numbers are lower than the 'norm'.

I've only had my card about 2 weeks but i've been doing some serious gaming and not had a single BSOD or driver crash yet.

Installed these straight over the 8.10's (thanks for feedback everyone who commented) and so far so good. I only have Fallout 3, CoH:OF and the Left4Dead demo installed, but everything is running fine. Mind you i had no problems with any of these games before, but at least the 8.11's didn't break anything!
