ATI Catalyst 8.11 Released

I remember the monthly updates in drivers since my Radeon 9700 days. Its one of the things I love about ATI actually. I see it as a big plus to them compared to NV. Many times I remember getting big boosts in games due to new drivers. I even remember a time where I used to look forward to new driver releases so much I used to keep checking out the forums if there is a update during the days it was meant to be released.

I will skip this driver. I got the 8.10's and I am done with Far Cry 2. I am happy with the performance I get with all the games I have installed at the moment, so no need to install, will probably get the 8.12 though. That's what I usually do, skip a month, unless there is performance gains or features I am interested that is :)

Keep up the good work ATI ;)

Hmmm... just installed these and the fan speed on my HIS 4850 has gone from 22% to 50% when idling - don't mind the 10' drop in temperature, not too keen on the increased noise.

PES 2009 is still fubar'd on my system....with 4870X2
Runs excellent on the 8.10s, but suffered badly with both the hotfix releases.......and obviously hasn't been fixed with the 8.11s..

Not the most demanding game in the world of course, but a constant V-Sync'd 60fps is a prerequisite (which the 8.10s provided).....cannot understand why that would be broken..
Might try out a re-install of the game (didn't help with the last hotfix driver though) and a few CCC settings before freaking out.

Is it ok to install these straight over the 8.10's?

I only recently bought a 4850 and i'm not sure what the best practice is for ATI cards. I have always installed over old drivers with Nvidia cards without any problems.

i uninstalled mine then used driver sweeper then installed new ones. for some reason ati drivers dont like when u install new one on top of them. at least they dont like it on my pc

I always uninstall all ATI software, reboot in safe mode and use DriverCleaner.net. Then reboot again and install the new driver. Will probably give these a go on my 3870, which is currently running under 8.8, I think.

Lately I have just installed over the old ones. Not had any problems what so ever. Does anyone know if ATI requires you to uninstall old drivers before installing new ones? I think if it was a problem the driver would detect it and uninstall old driver automatically before installing new ones.

For Pete's sake, this is an ATI driver thread and we still end up in an ATI vs nVidia slanging match...

No they don't. The Vista ATI install manager automatically uninstalls and installs what is needed. One reboot and job done. Never had any issue what so ever doing this where uninstalling and sweeping has caused me nightmares.

I trust ATI's driver team to know what reg and system files need to be removed/written over third party sweeping apps.

Yeah me too. I mean they would tell you uninstall and install on their website if it was needed. It may be a problem for some though, hence why they take the long route, not for me so far. Though I minimize the chance of things going wrong by not updating drivers every time there is a new one. Only when there is something the driver provides that I feel like is beneficial. But usually I just one month and install the next.

ok, this is off topic, but Jonnylaris, your first comment came across that you sent ht card back due to the high number of hotfixes from ATI...

Quite honestly, I can see why people question that. Even Nvidia need to update drivers quickly sometimes - in fact they release far more betas than ATI.

You simply sound bitter from one bad experience, which as stated was probably just a bad card. But you are getting very defensive and rude towards people in here, when theres really no need.

I hope your Nvidia card doesn't give you problems, cause I'm not sure who you will turn to then... maybe buy an xbox? No, wait.....

Nah, rather it end's up in a troll fest when fan boy's start defending their ATi cards.

Lol look who's talking, getting back on topic no issues to report with 8.11s on Vista x64 with my PC,still playing Stalker Clear Sky.

The other other person asked about how to install ATI drivers, well I just uninstall via Control Panel ,reboot then back to desktop and delete the ATI folder directory in Explorer then install the new ones and reboot once more, always works fine for me.

I don't bother with DriverSweeper or DriverCleaner unless I go from ATI to Nvidia or vice versa with a new video card upgrade.

I never install over the top with either Nvidia or ATI drivers just to rule out any possible issues doing it that way.

Just makes me think half of the forum community are complete a**h****.

Well people like you don't help one bit,if you kept it on topic and actually used the 8.11s then maybe you could put in a real constructive post rather then have a cheap shot at ATI drivers and trolling which IMHO is uncalled for.

I forgot to say I always download the full CAT suite package.

Cheer's for the heads up. Installed these over the 8.10's and working fine (XP). In fact they uninstalled the 8.10 CCC themsleves anyway.

To be honest, its the users who make me bitter. I can't belive people can be so nasty toward's people pointing out issues with their precious hardware. I especially hate comments like this:

Its nothing to do with that, in the thread you posted the majority of people told you that it sounded like a defective card but you refused to believe that for whatever reason. What the point of posting a thread asking for assistance if you're not gonna listen to people who suggest the card might be defective?

From what i remember the symptoms were graphical artifacts, stuttering and the fan getting pretty loud along with really hot core temperatures. Give those symptoms to anyone on this forum and they'll probably immediately say dodgy card. I just dont get why you point blank refused to accept that as a possibility.

Thats my final word on the subject, its being dragged from one thread to this one now. =/
