It is a known fact that problems with drivers can be due to an unclean installation and this has been covered in every support forum in the land countless times. Of course it is often fine to install over the top but NOT ALWAYS.

I don't really care what cat maker says, I have my own experiences.

You are probably correct because we all know the people who develop the software do not actually know what they are talking about.

Just as a side note though there was an instance recently with leaked drivers where you had to install over top of older drivers to have information left behind from those older drivers.. Hence why some people who have installed these 10.5 overtop are not having the problems people like you ( who know best ) are having...because information from previous install is maintaining important information for them to work best..

Still its your choice how you run your system. I am just glad you dont work in one of the nuclear power stations that run this country else I definatly would not sleep safe at night ;)
 
Well, it's fixed the dual screen flickering but somethings not right here (I hate these raised temperatures).

My overclock is 965/1250

Idle it clocks to 400/1250
Watching a YouTube video it clocks to 400/900
Benchmarking it clocks to 965/1250

What's going on? :/

As someone that develops software and has produced numerous installers using both MSI (Microsoft Installer) and proprietory installation technologies I can say there is no consistent best solution, because:

  1. Some installers don't uninstall cleanly. There are reasons that it can be almost impossible to uninstall completely cleanly but in many cases its made worse by insufficient testing.
  2. Some installers don't handle upgrades correctly whether this is by using uninstall/new install within the new install or by upgrading an existing installation. Again it's often a matter of good testing.
To be fair, some installation technologies and indeed MSI aren't the easiest to use and the flexibility of Windows adds to the significant number of possible variations that can occur.

So what do I do? Take a full disk image before installing a new graphics driver and use that to sort out any issues or let me have another go ;)

I don't think I know best, but why should I trust this twitter dude in the orange t-shirt when he might be responsible for missing the blatant issues that plague catalyst releases? They are not without fault and neither am I.
 
installed these, rebooted and checked my idle temps and they're sat at 44ºc up from 31ºc.

computer had just been switched on and the first thing i did was instal these?

think i might go back to 10.4A's

10 degrees higher at idle(42 degrees). around 6 degrees lower after running heaven 2.0 bench for 25 mins(70 degrees).
 
still running the benchmark temps now hovering around the 67-68 mark(used to be 76+), way better than before. Shame about the idle temps tho. Maybe the higher temps at the start make the fan kick earlier, meaning the temps are lower under load?
 
I reckon my move from 10.2 to 10.5 (5830 so the only drivers that officially support the card) has increased the powers in Crysis.

Benchmark wise, in 3Dmark06 with 10.2 I got roughly 17k, and now I've got no idea because it is refusing to connect to the website to submit my result.

This isn't annoying at all...
 
BC2 feels a lot smoother, though there isn't any noticeable increase in fps. Subjective I know, but all the same, I'm happy.
 
I reckon that this release could just be the official release of the 10.4a with added 5830 support?

Flash is GPU accelerated these days, this is why watching a you tube video ramps your clocks up
