ATI cataysis installation problem 'not in administrator mode'

Hi, I stupidly assumed that i would not need my administrator files in C:/documents and settings after buying an official copy of windows due to a severe spyware infection that is now purged.

However, when i try and run the cataysis control center for my ATI Radeon 9800XT card i am told that i need to be in administrator mode. I checked that i was currently in administrator mode before removing those files for the sake of a little extra HD space, therefore i assumed they were redundent. I assumed it only applied to people who had to share the pc with others.

PLEASE don't recommend a reinstallation of windows to get this catalysis software working. Also, i can't update my drivers, so as you've probably assumed, my final goal is to get computer games working on my new operating system.

After tediously reinstalling over 25 programs, updating drivers, changing settings etc...I REALLY don't want to have to reinstall windows to get my computer games working. If anyone knows of a way for me to...say, replicate the administrator folder i deleted, convince the program somehow that i AM in administrator mode, or perhaps suggests another installation option, then that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance, this site and it's vigilant members have proved so useful in the past :)

Is this Vista or XP?

If Vista, then right-clicking the file and selecting "Run as Administrator" should get you through those problems.

Not sure why Microsoft made it like this with Vista tbh.

Ok, i tried setting a password for administrator mode so that i would be prompted at start-up. As i'm the only user, listed as the administrator with only guest as the other option, i wouldn't normally have this set and the pc would load straight up. I thought setting a password might verify that i am the administator, but it didn't change anything. I guess i'll have to contact ATI about this one...

In case it's relevent, the install directory is: C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-2_xp_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_41238

As an alternative i could do a system restore to the 14th, the day i recieved the copy of windows and installed many programs, as well as stupidly removing the administrator folder. If i will at least have all the programs listed as being installed on that day, then that is far preferable to reinstalling windows. I've only used system restore once so i would like to know if that's the case. But then i could do that only to find the folders this missing, or that it wasn't the problem anyway!

Sigh, any advice is good advice, i miss my gaming sessions...
