I brought a 5850 around Christmas upgrading from a 8800GTS which died. When I try to play any games such as Global Agenda or Bulletstorm (which I just brought) it me the following error:

"Using hardware accelerated PhysX has been requested, but the drivers were out of date.

Please download the lastest driver from (random nvidia link which is broken)

FATAL ERROR - EXITING"

Ok so I need to update some PhysX Drivers so it uses the CPU and not the GPU since I am running an ATi card right?

So I run the physX update from both game discs and the most up to date version which gives me the following error:

"The currently installed version of the drivers is newer than what you are trying to install, aborting the installation."

This is odd since I don't even have it installed! But it would have been installed from what I was using the 8800GTS but I cleaned off all the drivers using Driver Sweeper and CCleaner both used in normal windows 7 and safe mode.

I do not want to reformat my PC, I have over 1TB of data that will take an age to put back onto my PC

Please can some help me before I start to abuse my PC with a hammer!

Cheers ;)

Maybe driver sweeper has got rid of core files that are needed on the os to install pysx. If so, then a new install I'm afraid. First try the newest physx from Nvidias driver page though.
I don't use driversweeper myself as the only time I used it, I couldn't install my gpu driver after sweeping and the only way to fix it was a new install.

Well I have only used driver sweeper because I was unable to install the phsyX before using it so I thought that if everything NVIDA was off my PC then I could reinstall it.

Another odd thing, if I search the C drive for NVIDIA it comes up with some files and a folder called "NVIDIA Corporation" but I can not gain access to it windows tells me that the location is unavailable.

Just buy a new HDD or SSD and do a fresh install on that, that way you won't lose your files. It really sounds like driver sweeper removed something it shouldn't have.

Ok well I have tried to install PhysX_9.10.0513_SystemSoftware and it just wont install. I must be able to add some dll's or something since I dont even have an nvidia card so the physX has to run on the CPU.
