ATI cuts 6950 allocation

The 6870 replaced the stillborn 5830.

The 6850 was more in the 5770 price ballpark.

I would have said the HD6870 replaced the HD5830, and the HD6850 replaced the HD5770.

We are meant to get HD6750 and HD6770.

Edit: Snap. Moody beat me to it.
If that's true, then there won't be much of a gulf in performance between the 6870 and 6950. I suspect there will still be 6930 card to fit in that gap, especially given the prices that will be charged for the 6950 and 6970.

The HD6950 is replacing the sub £190 HD5850. £250~ RRP.

The GTX570 is replacing the sub £230 GTX470. RRP 299~ RRP ?

You seem to be ignoring ATI will probably be looking to sell 10-20 times the amount amount Nvidia will, and the more the cards cost, the less they can shift, so the more it costs ATI. ATI have to sell a lower price to up the turnover.

Nvidia can't make many cards so they Have to sell at a higher price to make up for the poor turnover. Only a retarded person would try to apply a Nvidia type pricing strategy with ATI's high production numbers and vice versa.

Bare in mind the high end GPU market is quite finite. It doesn't make sense to sell 2.5 million cards at £300 if you could have sold 2 million at £300 and the other 0.5 million would happily pay £400. You just have to get it right enough that they don't go to the competition.

I swear the past few pages have just been people going around in circles talking about price points and sales figures, same arguments brought up again and again and again :o

Yup, its the same 5 people again and again.

I very much doubt whether 69xx will sell 10-20x the numbers as GTX 5x0. Stepping down one level to GTX460 vs 68xx shows pretty similar sales levels despite ATI's production cost advantage. ATI are certainly not giving the 6800's away at bargain prices, even if they are making a lot more money out of them than NVidia are. The same will most likely apply to 69xx.

Also, I thought that Rroff's comment you quoted from was reasonable It certainly did not deserve the retard comment.

Shouldn't it really be 5830 replaced by the 6850, and 5850 replaced by the 6870? That's where they seem to sit with price and performance?

But I digress... I'm still waiting for a card(s) that I can't afford lol.. but still interested in it all :-D I know some chums that will be waiting with baited breath for the 69xx release, hoping it will be a killer series.

Your just looking at what a failing company is doing and applying the system under a completely different set of circumstances though.

So you think the HD6970 will be £400 ?

The 6850 was to compete with the 768mb 460, which happened to be at the time, priced similar to the 5770.

The 6870 was to compete with the 1gb 460.

Nice idea I guess, but with both cards being £25 too expensive imho, it doesn't quite work. Especially with the 470 being priced so close to the 6870.

From the latest leaks (see other thread) it seems that the 6950 & 6970 will be priced circa £280 & £380incl VAT. Unless they perform really well I will be getting another 580.

They seem to be just taking a guess at pricing and performance, or something has been lost in translation. Either that or they are just looking for hits.

mydrives needs to be taken with a pinch of salt IMO.

Well since the gtx570 price of £260 is out, ATI need the 6950 to be around that price (or cheaper) to compete. Or a 6950 blows the gtx570 out of the water if it's dearer.

I still reckon Gibbo has the price right.

So your not suggesting the 6970 is gonna be in the £200-300 bracket?

Look man, don't be crap and respond to a man blowing up your whole argument with one line. If you're going to ask a question, at least respond to some of his other points.

Don't try to say rubbish either. I've been on forums half my life and I've argued with my fair share of trolls/idiots, and you're not even doing it that well :P

Oh the irony of that post.

Everybody needs to chillax! ( I hate that word). Its all ok. It doesn't really matter how good this card is, no game will need it anyway =/
