ATI cuts 6950 allocation

I'm finding it hard to believe that the 6970 will outperform the 580 by that much  However the question is, do I cancel my order for an EVGA GTX 580 due this Monday for £390 and wait for the 69xx cards instead?? I've used both ati and nvidia fairly extensively, however I've always preferred nvidia's drivers and overclocking experience overall, hence the no waiting.

What would you do??

Don't expect miracles guys. 30% faster than 580gtx is a pipe dream.

6970 will not beat a 5970, it didnt even have a die shrink.
5870 couldnt beat a 4870X2 with a die shrink
4870 couldnt beat a 3870X2 with a die shrink

+ this is coming from a guy who struggles with % anyway.

Yes it could, even the 4850 was a 3870X2 beater, it was down to the fact that they more than doubled the shaders, close to a 2.5 increase in shaders, 320 to 800 is quite a large jump.

I just canceled my Asus 580gtx for £413.. because if it is indeed even close or faster 580gtx, Nvidia may have a small price cut.. Plus i will be lucky to see a 580 this year and i would rather have the £413 back in my account.

Wrong it was about 4% quicker. I should know I had both. 3870 Xfire and 4870. The only place it would beat it convincingly was when xfire didnt work.

Even though it was one of the biggest jumps in raw power? I also had a 3870X2 and moved to 4850 crossfire, and a single 4850 was getting around the same performance as my old 3870X2 was. A 4850 had more shaders than a 3870X2 by quite a bit.

As it's so close now you may as well wait another 8 or 9 days.

555, if you have seen what I have seen you would be selling up whatever card you have and going all out for a 6970. Now look at the 6870, it's basically on par with a 5870 and it only has 1120 shaders, the 6970 has over 1900 shaders which perform significantly better than the 68** shaders, it's a monster.;)
So have you seen real world gaming performance, or just a few ATI slides that highlight specific strengths of their cards under very specific circumstances? For instance, can you say with any certainty that 6870 will beat 580 @1920x1200, 8xAA, Full Details within Cysis, Black Ops, Metro etc?

I do hope that the new ATI cards are corkers.
